the daily transit to work would take me through chaotically relaxed little villages, beaches with views of rock islands floating on the horizon and lone trees in tranquil fields like this. a sugar topping to the reality of being chained to a responsibility. a sometimes bitter plate I eat for survival instead of taste, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

sometimes walls scream at me. I try not to listen. there is nothing blocking the way really… Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica

I spent a day driving up and down the coast with this man. He showed me a spot in the road where he hit a man years ago and killed him, taking away the father of a family of four. He also told me that throughout his life he fathered 16 children, only 2 of whom he raised. Then he told me which countries I should go to to find the most beautiful women. I watched him play with his grandson later that day and he seemed content as can be. At no point throughout the day did I detect any signs of deep suffering or regret in his expression or tone, including the recounting of his past. El Salvador

“this stick is the most important thing in the world. it’s what gives life meaning. it’s what keeps me in this present moment, free of worry from the past or future. this stick is my entire life, for there is no such thing as past or future, just an everlasting present moment. and this is my present, this is my life. please chase me, rip it out of my mouth and throw it so I can chase it. life is simple and I know what I want…” -doG, Playa Potrero, Costa Rica
